New series aims to educate about the role of wildland firefighters and how they serve the public

The Grand Rapids Herald Review is working with the Minnesota Interagency Fire Center on an Ask a Forest Firefighter newspaper column that will run for seven weeks beginning Jan. 8, 2017.

The series communicates the value of the Minnesota Incident Command System (MNICS) and the work performed by teams and crews. Currently, incident management team (IMT) member applications are being reviewed. MNICS incident commanders Mike Aultman, Brian Pisarek, Greg Peterson and Mark Wurdeman will make selections on Jan. 17 to be approved by the MNICS Task Force on Jan. 20, 2017.

MNICS 2017 team rotations begin at the IMT meeting, Feb. 14-17 at Breezy Point Resort in Brainerd. Contact Tasha Woodwick, 218/322-2743 with questions about MNICS teams. Contact Christi Powers, 218/322-2739 if you have ideas for the Ask a Forest Firefighter column (photo credit: Phil Millette, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service).
