2022 Wildfire Academy The Minnesota Wildfire Academy is operated as an Incident including the support of an Incident Management Team. Course information and daily updates are provided on on-campus information boards. Entry level firefighters attend S-130/190 L-180 lecture in Chucker Auditorium. Conservation Corps Minnesota & Iowa (CCMI) are valuable partners to the Minnesota Wildfire Academy. Their logistical support during the academy helps move equipment, guide traffic, and so much more. The Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) prepares students on how to conduct vehicle safety inspections and navigate fire vehicles through challenge courses. Classrooms take on many shapes and form during the Minnesota Wildfire Academy, including using the sand the draw out a diagram. The S-131 Advanced Firefighter Course uses sand table exercises to run through challenging fire scenarios. The local Grand Rapids Fire Department helps out the Minnesota Wildfire Academy providing water to portable drop tanks that are used throughout the week. The S-290 Intermediate Wildland Fire Behavior Course sets up a Remote Automated Weather Station, a valuable tool to help prediction the fire environment forecast. S-291 Firing Operations Course introduces students to the different firing devices used in wildland fire, including aerial ignition tools. L-280 Followership to Leadership class work together using leadership skills to progress through challenging scenarios. Entry wildland firefighters practice using ignition tools in a controlled setting during outdoor field training sessions.
