On the afternoon of April 15, 2015 a fire broke out a few miles east of Hayes Lake State Park in northwestern Minnesota. Winds of 30-to-40 mph quickly swept the blaze into dense pine forests in Beltrami Island State Park near Warroad. On April 16 the 35-member MNICS Team C, led by Incident Commander Brian Pisarek, assumed oversight of the fire for four days until command was transferred to local units. Agencies that partnered to to suppress the fire include: Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA); Roseau Fire Department; Warroad Fire Department; the Roseau Sheriff’s Office and Minnesota National Guard helicopter crews.
