Cause: Lightning Start Date: 10/8/2025
Current Situation: Firefighters continue work along the containment line to mop up areas of heat within the fire area. This work and favorable weather has held the fire in place at 300 acres.
Planned Actions: Minnesota DNR firefighters will again work along the containment line, mopping up smoldering hot spots and checking the fire area. The section of the Superior Hiking Trail that is currently closed due to the Crosby fire will reopen at 8:00 a.m. Thursday, October 16. This will be the final update for the Crosby Fire unless significant activity occurs.
Closure UPDATE: The closed portion of the Superior Hiking Trail will reopen Thursday, October 16 at 8:00 a.m. The portion of the Superior Hiking Trail within the George H. Crosby Manitou State Park remains temporarily closed due to the Crosby Fire through today, October 15. The trail is closed between Caribou Falls State Wayside Rest along Minnesota State Highway 61 to the County Road 7 (Cramer Road) access points. The state park remains open.
Safety Note: Hikers along the Superior Hiking Trail are encouraged to stay on the trail when it reopens in the fire area for their safety. While the fire is 95% contained, crews are still working in the area. Many nearby trees may be fire weakened, which poses a danger to falling. You are also likely to see ashes of the fire near the trail and may smell or see smoke in the area. This is not cause for alarm, so there is no need to call 911. The fire will continue to be monitored by fire crews.
Aircraft: A reminder – Don’t fly a drone anywhere near the wildfire. Firefighting aircraft are available to the Crosby fire and will be used as necessary. If drones are detected, all use of firefighting aircraft will stop.
Weather and Smoke: Partly sunny today with high near 53 degrees. East wind around 5 mph. Showers possible tonight, with a 70% chance of precipitation on Thursday.
