DNR firefighters responded to a one-acre wildfire near Split Rock Lighthouse Tuesday afternoon

Grand Rapids, Minn. – Minnesota DNR firefighters responded to a wildfire in the vicinity of the Split Rock Lighthouse on Tuesday afternoon. The fire was spotted near the Tram building staircase and proceeded to burn toward Lake Superior. There were no reported structures damaged or lost and no evacuations were ordered.

A helicopter was brought in to help ground firefighting efforts by cooling down the active fire. The helicopter dipped water from nearby Lake Superior, and was released that evening.

The fire burned 1.1 acres, and is fully contained. The cause of the fire is undetermined and under investigation.
