Minnesota Smoke Outlook

Smoke outlook for August 28 – August 29, 2021

Special Statement
This forecast is made in cooperation with the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency. Visit MPCA for a more complete smoke information for the entire state.

Fire

A number of fires are currently burning in northern Minnesota and northwestern Ontario due to the historic drought in the area. Examples are the Greenwood and John Ek fires in Minnesota and FOR 035 and 055 in Quetico Provincial Park.
The perimeter of the Greenwood fire did not grow significantly yesterday. Good amounts of rain fell in the area Friday and more is expected today which should reduce fire activity and smoke generation.

Smoke

Today the winds will come out of the south, pushing any smoke generated to the north. Sunday the winds will be from the northwest but fire activity should be greatly reduced.
